It is via a tweet that Instagram announced a new feature for the application. It is now possible to share collections with friends and family.
Create collaborative collections with your friends on Instagram 🫶🏾
Introduced back in 2017, collections on Instagram are a very convenient way to save and organize Instagram posts that we like and would like to find more easily in the future. While this feature is reminiscent of Pinterest, unlike on that platform, Instagram collections have only been private until now.
You probably noticed it with the redesign of the save feature, but it is now possible to create collections with your friends from the News Feed, the Explore page or even private messages. To do this, it’s very simple. From your feed, proceed as follows:
- Tap below a post you see in your feed, then tap New collection.
- Enter a collection name.
- Tap next to Allow friends to join this collection.
- Select people from the list or search for their username. Note: You can add up to 250 people to your collection.
- Tap Save in the top right
To create a collaborative collection from a discussion, follow these steps:
-
Tap or in the top right of Feed.
- Tap a conversation from your Chats list.
- Tap next to a post that was shared in the conversation, then tap New collection.
- Enter a collection name and tap Save in the top right.
How do interactions take place within a collaborative collection ? 🤔
Once you have created a collaborative collection and shared it with others, they will receive a notification in their messages. It is important to note that if you add people to an existing group discussion, they will also have access to the collections that have been included. However, if someone is removed from the discussion or decides to leave it, they will no longer be able to see the collaborative collections associated with that conversation.
It is possible for anyone who has access to the collaborative collection to add future posts or delete existing posts. To find the collections created from your conversation, just click on the name of the discussion at the top of the screen.
There are also a few things to keep in mind:
- Private collections you’ve already created can’t be shared with others.
- A collaborative collection can’t be made private after it’s created.
- When you add a private account’s post to a shared collection, only people who follow that account will be able to see the post. The person who uploaded the post won’t be notified.
- When a post is deleted by its creator, it will no longer be visible to anyone on Instagram and will also be removed from the collaborative collection.
- A collaborative collection can be deleted at any time by anyone who can view the collaborative collection, regardless of who created the collection. People in your chat will be notified when a collection is deleted.
