Burkina Faso launches three platforms to digitize its diplomacy 🌐🇧🇫

Burkina Faso’s foreign ministry is taking a major step in the digital transformation of its services. On August 19, Foreign Minister Karamoko Jean Marie Traoré, joined by fellow ministers, officially launched three digital platforms designed to streamline access to administrative, protocol, and consular services. The initiative aims to simplify procedures, improve the quality of public services, and bring the administration closer to citizens — particularly Burkinabè nationals living abroad.

Modernizing diplomatic services💻

This new digital infrastructure is part of a broader modernization drive led by the President of Faso. The goal: making the ministry’s services more accessible, while gradually reducing the need for in-person procedures and easing exchanges between the administration, citizens, and diplomatic representations.

The first platform, the « Burkinabè Diaspora Portal, » is aimed primarily at nationals living abroad. Through this tool, diaspora members will be able to register online and book appointments for various consular documents. The platform also provides information on the diaspora’s one-stop service window.

In practice, this gives users a digital entry point that spares them a trip to the consulate just to get information or start a procedure.

E-Protocole: digitizing official procedures 🪪

The second platform, E-Protocole, is aimed at embassies and international organizations accredited in Burkina Faso. It allows online applications for diplomatic ID cards, as well as access cards to the official lounges at Ouagadougou and Bobo-Dioulasso airports.

The platform also handles requests for special authorizations. The goal is to simplify and speed up procedures tied to state protocol — allowing accredited actors to track their requests more easily and cutting through the red tape of traditional administrative processes.

A digital network for diplomatic missions 🌐

The third innovation targets the ministry’s own digital presence. It centralizes the foreign ministry’s website along with the 52 sites of Burkina Faso’s diplomatic missions and consular posts abroad. This centralization is meant to strengthen the consistency of Burkinabè diplomacy’s online communication. Beyond simply putting content online, the platform is meant to boost the visibility of Burkinabè diplomacy and make information from the ministry and its missions easier to find.

At the launch, the foreign minister described the move as a major milestone in his department’s modernization. He also thanked the minister in charge of digital transition and her team for their role in getting the new tools up and running.

He called on diplomatic missions and consular posts to keep the platforms actively updated and stay engaged with users, and encouraged people to make use of the new services and share feedback to help improve them going forward.
