After issues with audio drivers causing blue screens of death (BSOD) and problems related to the Windows Update cache, a new issue is affecting the System File Checker tool. It now detects corrupted system files during each scan, even when they aren’t.

A failing system file checker 🛠️

The Windows 11 24H2 update, recently released by Microsoft, continues to face complications. While the company anticipated some known issues, it has been surprised by the emergence of new bugs. The System File Checker (SFC) tool is quite popular among users who perform regular weekly maintenance on their Windows installation. It’s also one of the utilities promoted by YouTubers, which is why many people frequently run it.

The System File Checker is designed to detect and repair corrupted files in the operating system. Normally, when a user runs the command « sfc /scannow » via Command Prompt, the tool is supposed to immediately fix any corrupted files it finds. However, on Windows 11 24H2, this operation consistently results in the detection of corrupted files, even though they aren’t actually corrupted—this happens even after previous scans have been performed.

User Concerns ‼️

This issue, first reported by WindowsLatest, is beginning to attract attention on Microsoft forums. More and more users are reporting that the utility flags errors with every new scan. The media outlet 01net also ran tests on one of their computers and confirmed that the System File Checker continues to report issues even after attempts to fix them.

A fix in sight 🔧

While Microsoft has not officially documented this bug yet, it appears that the company is aware of it. In their latest blog post about build 26100.2152 for Insider members, Microsoft mentioned that they had fixed this issue. However, Windows 11 24H2 users will have to wait until November for the fix, expected with Microsoft’s next Patch Tuesday update. Until then, users will have to deal with this inconvenience.

Have you experienced these issues ? If so, how did you manage them ?
