Since January 20, 2025, the Steering Committee for the digital campuses project has been officially inaugurated. This initiative aims to improve e-governance through training and the digitization of public services.
An ambitious project 🌍
By June 2025, four digital campuses will be built in Yaoundé, Douala, Garoua, and Buea. Their goal is to train state employees in digital tools while improving the efficiency of public services. The project is funded to the tune of 4 billion FCFA, with 85% of the funding provided by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
The Steering Committee is responsible for strategic oversight, while the management unit will handle operational follow-up. Initial recommendations focus on accelerating construction and ensuring the implementation of high-quality internet connectivity. Officials are planning a meeting between the National School of Administration and Magistracy (ENAM) and engineers to define the architectural specifics of the Yaoundé campus.
A strategic partnership 🤝
This project, a partnership between the Cameroonian government and KOICA, aims to strengthen the skills of public servants, improve access to online services, and reduce reliance on paper-based processes. During the first steering committee meeting, Ministers Minette Libom Li Likeng (Minister of Posts and Telecommunications) and Joseph Le (Minister of the Public Service and Administrative Reform) emphasized the importance of this project for public administration.
These digital campuses will:
- Simplify administrative procedures by reducing the need for physical visits.
- Speed up file processing through digital tools.
- Improve transparency and interaction between the government and citizens.
- Train public servants in the use of new technologies.
A well-received project 👏
Many citizens have welcomed this initiative.
“This project will reduce the long queues in public offices. It will also allow us to access digital training,” says Jean-Pierre, a civil servant in Yaoundé.
For Amina, a public administration student, “This is progress that better prepares future state executives to face digital challenges.”
This project could inspire other African countries seeking effective digital transformation. KOICA, which supports several nations across the continent, sees this initiative as a lever for Cameroon’s technological development.
