To mark World Emoji Day, the Unicode Consortium has officially revealed the short but colorful list of new emojis set to land on our devices with the Unicode 17.0 update. Expected to roll out by the end of 2025, these additions aim to bring a fresh mix of emotion, originality, and visual flair to our digital conversations.

A vibrant batch of 9 new emojis ✨

This year’s lineup is compact but packs a punch: just eight new emojis will join the party on iOS 26 and Android 16. Here’s the full list:

  • Trombone (yes, the instrument)
  • Treasure Chest
  • Distorted Face
  • Yeti (a fuzzy mythical creature)
  • Fight Cloud
  • Apple Core
  • Orca
  • Ballet Dancers
  • Landslide

Certains, comme le visage déformé ou le nuage de bagarre, laissent déjà

Some of these—like the distorted face or the comic-style fight cloud—are tailor-made for spicing up expressive chats. Meanwhile, the treasure chest and trombone add a quirky twist to your emoji toolkit.

Coming to iOS and Android—eventually 🕐

You won’t see these emojis pop up overnight. Final approval is expected in September 2025, after which Apple and Google will begin rolling them out gradually in iOS 26 and Android 16. Don’t be surprised if they don’t all show up right away—Apple, for instance, often introduces new emojis in later updates after a major OS release.

A symbol of creativity and connection 🌐

Every emoji we add brings us closer to a richer digital language—one that transcends borders and speaks emotion at a glance. Whether you’re celebrating a win, reacting with exaggerated disbelief, or just feeling whimsical, these additions help us connect in more expressive ways.
