Yango, the ride-hailing app, continues its expansion in Cameroon by launching its services in Bafoussam by the end of February 2025. After a successful initial deployment in Douala and Yaoundé, the company is now focusing on the western region of the country. This decision follows an in-depth market analysis, revealing significant potential.

A city with strategic potential 🏙️

Bafoussam, though less known than Douala or Yaoundé, serves as a strategic hub for Yango. The city benefits from recent infrastructure developments and is an important economic center in the region. Additionally, its proximity to cities like Bandjoun strengthens its role as a commercial and tourist center. The modernization of infrastructure, particularly through the 2021 AFCON, is a major advantage for Yango. The company aims to leverage these assets to attract residents and meet their transportation needs.

For several weeks, local teams have been making final adjustments. These teams are mainly focused on fine-tuning GPS routes and training drivers. Moreover, tests are being conducted to ensure a smooth user experience from the service’s launch. As a result, the company appears ready to meet the growing demand for transportation in Bafoussam.

Furthermore, transportation demand remains high in Douala and Yaoundé, where the current supply is insufficient to meet all users’ needs. Yango has thus decided to expand its network to Bafoussam, where transportation services are still underdeveloped. Despite these advantages, Yango will face several challenges in successfully setting up in Bafoussam. First, the company must convince local drivers to adopt this new technology and join the platform. Then, it must reassure users about the service’s reliability and safety. Maintaining high service quality is also crucial to retaining customers. However, if these challenges are successfully addressed, Yango could consider expanding to other Cameroonian cities.
