As every month, Telegram graces us with a new update. And the July update is rich in new features, especially around mini-applications.
Mini-applications: a growing ecosystem 📱
Telegram’s new update introduces a new mini app bar. Users can now minimize running applications into a bar at the bottom of the screen. Navigation between messages, applications, and even accounts is thus smoother and without additional loading time. To minimize an application, simply swipe down on its header, and to reopen it, tap on the app bar and select one of the active applications.
Telegram also introduces a mini app store, offering a new way to discover and use mini-applications. A new ‘Applications’ tab in the search displays used and most popular applications. Options to view video demos and screenshots before launching an application are available.
A more powerful integrated browser 🌐
Telegram’s new integrated browser supports multiple tabs and allows seamless access to websites and mini-applications. Users can now minimize web pages and reopen them from a bottom bar, making navigation between messages and web content smoother. Users can also add pages to favorites to return to them later.
Improved sharing and social interaction ➿
The update introduces several interesting social features. Users can now gift Telegram stars to their friends, allowing the purchase of digital goods or access to paid content. Additionally, mini-applications can generate custom content for stories, such as AI-generated videos or ranking snapshots, which users can share directly.
Multimedia improvements 🎥
Telegram hasn’t neglected the multimedia aspects of its application. Video messages now have a front flash option for recordings in the dark. A new animated weather widget can be added to stories, even displaying the moon phase on clear nights. Users also have the option to choose the cover image for their video stories.
Optimizations for macOS 💻
Finally, the macOS version of Telegram received special attention with the introduction of browser tabs supporting websites, mini-applications, instant view pages, and Web3 sites.
With this new update, Telegram reinforces its status as a versatile and modern messaging platform. The introduction of mini-apps and the integrated browser show the platform’s desire to create its own ecosystem.
