Disney+ subscribers could soon see a significant increase in their subscription cost. The entertainment giant recently announced a price hike for its streaming services in the United States, including Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+.

A market under tension⚔️

In a context of increased competition and quest for profitability, Disney recently announced a price increase for its various streaming services in the United States. This decision, which affects Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN, will take effect from October 17th. It aligns with a global trend of rising prices observed in the streaming industry.

In the United States, the price increase for Disney+ varies between 14% and 25% depending on the chosen plan. The ad-supported subscription will increase from $7.99 to $9.99 per month. As for the ad-free offer, it will rise from $13.99 to $15.99 monthly. To accompany this increase, Disney+ plans to enrich its offer. From September 4th, American subscribers will have access to ABC News Live and a series of thematic playlists, covering categories such as preschool content, Marvel and Star Wars productions, classics, and documentaries. This strategy aims to improve user experience and justify the price increase.

In France, Disney+ currently offers three plans: €5.99 per month for the standard offer with ads, €8.99 for the standard ad-free offer, and €11.99 for the premium offer. It remains to be seen whether these rates will also be affected by this new pricing policy. As a reminder, Disney had already increased its prices last year. While initially, the increase only concerned the American market, it was later applied to all other markets.

What are the stakes for Disney?🐭

This decision is part of Disney’s effort to make its streaming services profitable. It’s a major concern for many industry players. However, it remains to be seen how subscribers will react to these changes, as the cost of living is increasing in many countries.

For now, Disney has not communicated about a potential application of this price increase outside the United States. Non-American subscribers will therefore have to wait to know if they will be affected by this increase.
