Starting in summer 2025, Air France will radically transform its passengers’ experience by introducing free, high-speed Wi-Fi across its entire fleet. This ambitious initiative is made possible through a partnership with Starlink, the global leader in satellite connectivity, marking a crucial step in the French airline’s premium strategy.
A « Home-Like » connection in the sky 🛜
Air France’s new Wi-Fi service promises connectivity quality comparable to what passengers enjoy on the ground. They’ll be able to stay in touch with loved ones, follow live news, play online games, or stream videos without interruption. This top-tier connectivity will be available for free in all travel classes. To access it, passengers simply need to log into their Flying Blue account, Air France-KLM’s loyalty program. Those without an account can create one onboard in just a few clicks, free of charge.
This initiative represents a significant leap forward in the airline industry. By offering free high-speed connectivity, Air France meets the growing demands of modern travelers who want to stay connected even at 10,000 meters altitude. Passengers will be able to use multiple devices simultaneously, whether it be smartphones, tablets, or laptops.
A transition period before full deployment 🛫
Until summer 2025, during the gradual rollout of this cutting-edge technology across its fleet, Air France will continue offering its current onboard connectivity services. Flying Blue members already enjoy a free “messages” pass, allowing them to send and receive text messages via apps like WhatsApp or Messenger. A paid service is available for other uses on devices not yet equipped with the new service.
A strategic choice with Starlink 🛰️
The choice of Starlink as a technical partner is no coincidence. Elon Musk’s company, with its network of low-orbit satellites, is currently the only one capable of providing continuous internet connectivity across most air routes. This solution allows Air France to significantly enhance its connectivity offering without requiring major modifications to the architecture of its planes.
