A €1,500 suspended fine was requested on Tuesday, October 21, in Lyon against french influencer Mila Orriols, known for her far-right positions. She appeared in court on charges of public insult on racial grounds, following a tweet posted in February 2024. The court will deliver its verdict on December 16.

Deleted Ten Minutes After Posting ⏳

The controversial tweet contained offensive comments targeting Maghrebi families, making references to their alleged “consanguinity” and physical appearance. These racist remarks were widely condemned by internet users.

Mila deleted the tweet less than ten minutes after posting it. However, several users had already reported it, and a complaint was later filed by a Maghrebi man who did not attend the hearing.

At the trial, the 22-year-old influencer admitted to her actions and expressed regret: “I sincerely regret having offended some people. That tweet doesn’t reflect who I am — I’m ashamed of it,” she said, while insisting on her commitment to “total freedom of speech.”

A Regular in Courtrooms 🧨

Mila first became known in 2020 after being the target of massive online harassment following her criticism of Islam. She has lived under police protection ever since. In 2021, eleven cyberharassers were sentenced to suspended prison terms, some of which were increased on appeal. In recent years, she has moved closer to far-right movements, including the identitarian group Némésis and Éric Zemmour’s Reconquête! party.

In July, she also announced being placed under formal investigation for defamation, after posting a photo of a man near Lyon holding a fake weapon. She is also being prosecuted for revealing the identity of a man sentenced to a three-month suspended sentence for online harassment.
