Despite repeated embargoes, the Chinese giant Huawei does not falter on the wireless headset front. After launching the FreeBuds 5i a few weeks ago, Huawei has just made the FreeBuds 5 official at its annual event on March 23. Unsurprisingly, it is the same model with noise cancellation that was unveiled recently in China but with a UNIQUE design.
Freebuds 5: futuristic-looking earbuds 🤖
When discovering the images of the Huawei FreeBuds 5, we must say that we are struck by this teardrop-shaped design, different from its previous models and from what the competition offers.
Indeed, Huawei specifies that this design aims to better adapt to the contours of the ears and presents it as « the result of tens of thousands of ergonomic simulations and hundreds of optimizations. »
The entire body is curved, so that there is a larger contact area between the headphones and the ears. This reduces tension and provides a more breathable fit, the manufacturer explains. In other words, the curved stem would allow for an even distribution of pressure when interacting with the earphones, making them easier to use.

Apart from the design, the Huawei FreeBuds 5 earbuds have a dynamic speaker with ultra-fine magnet and Turbo Bass technology, offering low sounds and a frequency response announced as superior to the previous generation. It’s a promise kept for the giant that wants to be innovative. So, what can we expect?
- They are equipped with a triple adaptive equalizer to optimize sound quality in real time. The Huawei FreeBuds 5 support L2HC and LDAC codecs and are HWA and Hi-Res Audio Wireless certified.
- These earbuds feature a hybrid noise cancellation technology with three microphones, adapting to the shape of the ear and the state of wear. Using intelligent dynamic ANC (active noise control) technology, the earbuds are able to identify ambient noise and adjust the noise cancellation mode in real time. The triple microphone, combined with a Deep Neural Network (DNN) algorithm, aims to eliminate noise during calls.

The Huawei FreeBuds 5 also embeds a 42 mAh battery that brings them a 5 hours autonomy without noise reduction and 3.5 hours with. The 505 mAh battery of the charging box allows to increase the autonomy up to 30 hours without ANC and 20 hours with. They are also compatible with the fast charge 5C and the wireless charge Qi.
They can connect to any iOS or Android device via Bluetooth. Like the brand’s other audio products, the AI Life app allows you to customize controls and other settings.
The Huawei FreeBuds 5 will be available in France from the end of May 2023, at a recommended retail price of €159.99, and in three colors: ceramic white, silver frost and coral orange.
