Apple has just unveiled its new AirPods 4 during its third keynote titled « It’s glowtime ». This new generation of wireless earbuds comes in two versions: one with active noise cancellation (ANC) and one without. The AirPods 4 bring a series of new features while maintaining the spirit of the line: simplicity, advanced technology, and ergonomics.
Open Design Without Ear Tips, With or Without Noise Cancellation🎧
Unlike the AirPods Pro, these new earbuds feature an open design that doesn’t go inside the ear canal. Apple has redesigned them to fit comfortably in most ears, but without replaceable tips, which may reduce natural noise isolation.
The AirPods 4 come in two models, a version without active noise cancellation and another with it. The second version is closer to the AirPods Pro 2, offering not only active noise cancellation but also a transparency mode and adaptive audio that automatically adjusts the level of noise reduction based on your environment.
Both models incorporate the H2 chip, which allows for improved sound spatialization thanks to the personalized spatial audio function. They also offer better voice isolation for clearer calls. Additionally, the H2 chip contributes to noise reduction to protect the user’s ears while providing an immersive sound experience.
Gesture controls and extended battery life 🔋
Like the AirPods Pro 2, head movement detection allows users to answer calls or communicate with Siri simply by nodding or shaking their head. Touch controls on the stem of the earbuds also allow control of music and calls.
In terms of battery life, Apple promises up to 30 hours of listening with the charging case. This represents a significant improvement over previous generations.
USB-C is Here… Without the Cable! 🔌
A major update: the AirPods 4 now feature a USB-C connector, following Apple’s recent trend across its product lineup. This change simplifies charging and offers greater compatibility with other devices. However, a surprise for some: the USB-C cable is not included in the box, a decision that might disappoint a few users.
The case of the AirPods 4 with noise cancellation is also equipped with a speaker that allows it to be located via the Find My app, as well as wireless charging. These two features are absent from the version without active noise cancellation.
USB-C and New Colors for AirPods Max 🌈
Apple has also announced a subtle update to its AirPods Max. The most notable change is the adoption of USB-C, finally replacing the Lightning port. To mark this slight refresh, Apple is also introducing four new colors: black, blue, purple, and orange.
However, the technical specifications remain unchanged. Apple seems to consider that the performance of the 2020 model is still competitive against the competition.
Disponibilité et prix 🤑
The new AirPods 4 are available for pre-order from September 20. They are priced at €149 for the version without noise cancellation, and €199 for the version with with active noise cancellation.
As for the AirPods Max, their price remains stable at €579.
