iPhone 16 and 16 Plus: back to basics with subtle new features 1️⃣6️⃣

On September 9, 2024, during its traditional fall Keynote, Apple unveiled its new iPhone models: the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus. While these two models don’t radically change the lineup, they do bring notable improvements, particularly with a revised design, new features, and increased performance. Here’s what you need to know about Apple’s latest models.

A Revised Design with a Return to Root🧹

The design of the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus marks a return to its roots. The two camera modules are now vertically aligned, reminiscent of the iPhone X’s aesthetic.

The Action button, introduced on the iPhone 15 Pro, is now present on these base models. This button allows users to configure custom shortcuts, enhancing the user experience.

Another major innovation is the introduction of the Camera Control button. This stainless steel button allows users to manage the camera with various commands: a click to take a photo, a long press to film, and a slide to zoom. Additionally, this button will soon be able to scan visual elements like Google Lens.

The screen sizes remain unchanged. The iPhone 16 retains its 6.1-inch screen, while the 16 Plus keeps its 6.7-inch display. Protection is enhanced thanks to Ceramic glass, which is 50% more resistant than the previous version.

A Photo Experience Similar to the iPhone 15 📸

Photographic capabilities have slightly evolved. The main wide-angle sensor remains at 48 MP. The 12 MP ultra-wide-angle module gains autofocus and macro mode. A 2x optical zoom is still available, using intelligent cropping of the main sensor.

The new sensor arrangement brings a new feature. It now allows the capture of spatial photos and videos, compatible with Apple Vision Pro.

Boosted Performance Thanks to the New A18 Chip 🚀

Under the hood, the iPhone 16 features the new A18 chip, dropping the « Bionic » suffix from previous generations. Although this version is slightly inferior to the A18 Pro reserved for high-end models, it’s still impressive. Manufactured using a 3 nm process, it offers a 30% improvement in CPU performance and 40% for the GPU compared to the iPhone 15.

Moreover, this new chip allows the iPhone 16 to benefit from WiFi 7, ensuring faster and more stable connectivity.

Apple also promises better battery life, thanks to the optimization of the A18 chip and a larger battery.

Price and Availability 💰

Pre-orders for the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus will begin on September 13, 2024. Prices start at 969 euros for the iPhone 16 and 1,119 euros for the iPhone 16 Plus. These models are available with 128 GB storage and in several colors: black, white, pink, green, and blue.
