Samsung has just announced the launch of its new Galaxy S24 FE. This smartphone is positioned as a more affordable alternative to the Galaxy S24 Plus. With a larger screen than the standard Galaxy S24 and a more attractive price, this « Fan Edition » model aims to appeal to consumers seeking a premium device without breaking the bank.

A familiar design with some compromises📱

The Galaxy S24 FE features a design very similar to the standard Galaxy S24. Rounded edges and flat aluminum frames give it a modern and elegant look. With an IP68 rating, it promises water and dust resistance, and it boasts a repairability score of 8.4/10, which is a notable advantage for consumers concerned about the durability of their devices.

Its 6.7-inch screen uses Dynamic AMOLED FHD+ technology with an impressive maximum brightness of 1900 nits. While its bezels are slightly thicker than those of the Galaxy S24, the screen remains visually appealing with side bezels measuring just 1.99 mm.

Solid camera performance 📸

The camera setup is another strong point of the Galaxy S24 FE. It features four sensors, with the main one being a 50 MP sensor with optical image stabilization (OIS) and an f/1.8 aperture, capable of zooming up to 2x. This sensor is complemented by a 12 MP ultra-wide-angle lens and an 8 MP 3x telephoto lens, also equipped with OIS. For selfies, there is a 10 MP front-facing camera.

Thanks to Galaxy AI features, photo processing sees significant improvements, particularly for intermediate zoom and low-light portraits.

Galaxy AI also offers tools such as real-time translation during calls and an assistant to help draft messages. This makes the model a great companion for everyday use.

Battery life and technical compromises 🔋

The Galaxy S24 FE is powered by a 4700 mAh battery, slightly larger than that of the previous year’s Galaxy S23 FE. Samsung promises improved battery life by 3.5 hours compared to its predecessor. However, charging remains limited to 25 W wired and 10 W wireless, falling behind other models on the market that offer much faster charging speeds.

In terms of performance, Samsung has opted for its own Exynos 2400e processor, paired with 8 GB of RAM. This choice helps keep costs in check, though the Galaxy S24 FE doesn’t match the performance of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 found in higher-end models. Although the display supports a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz, it lacks LTPO technology, which allows for dynamic refresh rate adjustment.

A price that raises questions 🤔

Available now, the Galaxy S24 FE comes in two versions: €749 for 128 GB of storage and €809 for 256 GB. It is available in several appealing colors, including graphite, blue, yellow, and water green.

However, its price raises some questions, especially when the standard Galaxy S24, which is supposed to be more powerful, is currently available at a similar or even lower price in some markets. This could impact the appeal of the Galaxy S24 FE despite its undeniable qualities.
