WhatsApp is gearing up to make your digital life even smoother—especially if you’re on Android. According to a recent discovery by WABetaInfo, the popular messaging app is now testing a built-in document scanner. Say goodbye to app-hopping just to scan a page: WhatsApp wants to keep everything in one place, and we’re here for it.
Native document scanning is finally here 📲
For years, scanning documents on your phone meant relying on third-party apps like Adobe Scan or Google Drive. Now, WhatsApp is cutting out the middleman. A new scanning option is being integrated directly into the document sharing menu.
Once enabled (currently available for beta testers), simply tap “Scan Document” to launch the camera and start capturing your files—no extra downloads required.
Two scan modes to fit your flow 📸
WhatsApp’s new feature comes with two capture modes :
- Manual mode gives you full control over when to take the shot—perfect for adjusting lighting or framing.
- Auto mode detects document edges and snaps the photo automatically when everything’s aligned.
The scan is then converted into a PDF locally—ready to send in any one-on-one or group chat. No cloud uploads, no data leaks: everything stays on your device until you decide to share, all with end-to-end encryption intact.
A smarter, more private way to scan 🔒
This built-in scanner is all about simplicity and privacy. The entire PDF conversion process happens on-device, with zero reliance on external servers. That means faster results, tighter control over your data, and no need for extra apps cluttering your phone.
Early feedback from beta users is positive, with solid scan quality even for official documents and IDs.
WhatsApp is becoming the Swiss army knife of your smartphone 🛠️
From payments to AI features—and now document scanning—WhatsApp is evolving far beyond its messaging roots. It’s aiming to be a true everyday hub. No word yet on when this feature will roll out widely, but one thing’s clear: Android users are about to get an even more seamless experience.
