WhatsApp is finally working on scheduled messages 💬

Imagine writing a birthday message at midnight — and not worrying about forgetting to send it in the morning. That long-requested feature could soon arrive on WhatsApp. According to WABetaInfo, the messaging app used by more than 2 billion people is testing scheduled messages in the iOS beta version 26.7.10.72, distributed through TestFlight. The feature is still hidden in development, but early signs suggest it may finally be on the way.

A discovery that could change everyday messaging  🔍

The feature was spotted by WABetaInfo while digging through the latest iOS beta build of WhatsApp. A new “Scheduled messages” section appears in the chat info page for both individual and group conversations. The concept is simple: write your message, choose the exact date and time, and let the app send it automatically — even if you’re offline.

Recipients won’t see any indication that the message was scheduled. On the sender’s side, a dedicated menu allows you to view, edit, or delete scheduled messages before they’re delivered.

In short, it’s a straightforward automation feature that could quietly make everyday messaging much more convenient.

A feature users have been waiting for 📱

Scheduled messaging has been standard on some rival platforms for years.

On Telegram, for example, you can simply long-press the send button to schedule a message. And on iMessage, Apple recently introduced a “Send Later” option.

Meanwhile, WhatsApp has lagged behind. Until now, similar functionality was mostly limited to businesses using paid broadcast tools in WhatsApp Business.

There were workarounds — such as automation using iOS Shortcuts — but they were far from intuitive. A built-in scheduling tool available to everyone would close that gap and unlock useful workflows, from personal reminders to professional follow-ups.

Testing is also underway on Android, where the feature has appeared in beta 2.26.8.11.

When could it roll out? ⏳

The feature is still under development and is not yet active, even in beta builds.

WhatsApp typically rolls out new tools in stages: first to beta testers, then gradually to the wider public through future app updates.

There’s no official launch date yet, but anticipation is already high. After more than 17 years of WhatsApp’s existence, scheduled messaging remains one of the platform’s most requested features.

Stay tuned — the wait may finally be coming to an end.
