Dzair Digital Services: Algeria accelerates its e-government rollout 🇩🇿 🖥

It’s an order that came straight from the top. President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has set a one-month deadline to interconnect Algeria’s public administrations through the National Data Center. The decision, announced Sunday, July 12, during the Council of Ministers, puts technology at the center of the state’s modernization push.

Bringing government services closer to citizens 🌐

Tebboune’s goal is straightforward: use technology to bring administrative services closer to citizens. To get there, the government is leaning on the National Data Center to automate data exchange between public institutions. According to the Council of Ministers’ statement, the decision is meant to speed up digitalization and strengthen integration between state institutions.

In practice, this interconnection is supposed to save citizens from submitting the same documents over and over across different offices. It forms the technical backbone of « Dzair Digital Services, » the national portal the government is rolling out to simplify administrative procedures and expand online public services.

The national digital services center, the backbone of the plan 🏢

This push comes just days after the inauguration of Algeria’s National Digital Services Center in Algiers. Presented by authorities as the country’s first sovereign digital infrastructure, it runs on two data centers — one in Algiers, one in Blida — with a reported uptime of 99.98%.

On the technical side, the country’s first data center reportedly earned Tier III Design certification from the Uptime Institute back in February — a recognized standard that signals a high level of reliability for hosting sensitive administrative data.

A digital strategy built step by step 🇩🇿

This decision marks another step in Algeria’s broader digital strategy. After launching a National Data Governance Platform in February to standardize how public data is managed, authorities are now working to make interagency interconnection fully operational. That groundwork is also expected to support other major initiatives, including Algeria’s national AI strategy, which relies on secure public data sharing.

Through this project, the Algerian government is signaling a clear regional ambition: positioning Algeria among Africa’s leaders in digital public administration.
