Galaxy S26 breaks the iPhone barrier with native AirDrop compatibility 📱

Samsung just knocked down one of the biggest barriers between Android and iOS. With the Galaxy S26 lineup, AirDrop compatibility is now officially built into Quick Share—no third-party apps, no hacks required. In practice, that means files can now move as seamlessly between a Galaxy S26 and an iPhone as they do within Apple’s own ecosystem.

AirDrop on Galaxy S26: what actually changes 📲

With the latest update, Quick Share can now detect nearby Apple devices and communicate directly with AirDrop. The system mirrors Apple’s own approach: Bluetooth handles device discovery, while Wi-Fi takes over for fast file transfers.

The result? You can send photos, videos, documents, and contacts from a Galaxy S26, S26+, or S26 Ultra to an iPhone, iPad, or Mac—with the familiar AirDrop prompt appearing on the Apple device.

For now, this feature is exclusive to the Galaxy S26 family. Samsung says it plans to expand support to other devices, though it hasn’t shared a timeline yet. The rollout starts in South Korea and will gradually expand to Europe, North America, Asia, and beyond via a standard software update.

How to enable AirDrop on your Galaxy S26 ⚡

AirDrop compatibility through Quick Share is turned off by default on the Galaxy S26. That’s intentional—Samsung says it helps preserve battery life and maintain Wi-Fi stability, since scanning for Apple devices can temporarily disrupt your connection.

Here’s how to turn it on:

  • Open Settings
  • Go to Connected devices > Quick Share
  • Enable Share with Apple devices

On the Apple side, make sure AirDrop is set to Everyone (or Everyone for 10 minutes) so your Galaxy device can detect it.

Once everything is set up, the process is straightforward:

  • Open a file (photo, document, etc.)
  • Tap Share > Quick Share
  • Select the nearby Apple device

After the recipient confirms, the transfer begins—working both ways between devices.

Before trying it out, make sure your Galaxy S26 is running the latest One UI update (rolling out since March 23, 2026, starting in Korea) and that Quick Share is up to date via Google Play.

So… how far will this openness go ? 🔮

With Pixel devices and now the Galaxy S26 lineup embracing AirDrop interoperability, Quick Share is starting to look like a de facto bridge between Android and iOS.

The bigger question is what comes next. Will other Android manufacturers follow suit? And more importantly, will Apple lean further into openness—or stop at a carefully controlled level of compatibility?

Zooming out, this shift goes beyond file sharing. It hints at a future where switching platforms doesn’t mean giving up everyday conveniences we’ve come to rely on. If this momentum extends to messaging, smart home tech, and accessories, the idea of an “ecosystem” could finally evolve—from a walled garden into something closer to real user freedom.

💬 What do you think?
Is this AirDrop interoperability a genuine turning point for Android–iOS relations—or just a PR move that won’t really change your smartphone habits?
