Samsung is making a strong comeback with the Galaxy S25 series, a lineup that promises to redefine how we interact with our smartphones. Alongside its refined design and enhanced performance, Samsung seems to have focused heavily on artificial intelligence and user experience through One UI 7. So, are these new smartphones truly worth it?

Galaxy S25 and S25 Plus: evolution, not revolution 📱

The Galaxy S25 and S25 Plus don’t reinvent the wheel but offer several incremental improvements. The design remains familiar to the 2024 generation, with slightly thinner bezels and reduced weight. Both models are now 5 to 6 grams lighter and 0.4 mm thinner. The displays remain unchanged compared to the S24 series, with an AMOLED Full HD+ panel for the S25 and a QHD+ resolution for the S25+.

Durability is also a highlight, with Gorilla Glass Victus 2 for protection, an aluminum frame, and IP68 certification for water and dust resistance. Samsung emphasizes software support, offering seven years of updates and an 8.5/10 repairability score.

The color options include aqua green, light blue, and midnight blue, with exclusive colors available on Samsung’s website. Pricing remains the same as the previous generation.

Galaxy S25 Ultra: power meets elegance 🌌

The Galaxy S25 Ultra stands out this year with a new design. Gone are the angular edges, replaced by softer, rounder lines, aligning it more with the S25 and S25+. It is also 15% thinner than its predecessor and 14 grams lighter, all while featuring a larger 6.9-inch display. Premium materials have been used, with a titanium frame, Gorilla Glass Armor 2 on the front with an anti-reflective coating, and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the back.

In terms of performance, the entire S25 lineup is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, ensuring increased computational power and enhanced performance for photo processing, gaming, and other demanding tasks. On the camera side, the ultra-wide sensor has been upgraded to 50 MP with a larger aperture, promising photos that are 24% brighter. However, the rest of the camera setup remains similar to the previous generation. The S25 Ultra retains a 5000 mAh battery with 45W wired charging and comes with an integrated S Pen stylus.

One UI 7 and Galaxy AI: artificial intelligence at the service of experience 🧠

The real innovation of the Galaxy S25 series lies in the introduction of One UI 7, based on Android 15, and its deep AI integration. Samsung has placed artificial intelligence at the core of the user experience.

Here are some of the key features:

  • Conversational Hub: One UI 7 introduces a conversational hub that allows more natural access to AI features. The smartphone becomes a partner you can talk to.
  • AI Agent: The device is equipped with an AI agent capable of interacting with its environment, collecting data, and performing tasks autonomously.
  • Cross App: This feature aggregates content from various sources to respond to user requests, such as summarizing YouTube videos.
  • Voice Commands: The voice assistant, powered by Gemini Live, can handle simple tasks like adjusting font size or finding specific photos.
  • Now Bar and Now Brief: The Now Bar on the lock screen displays ongoing tasks, while the Now Brief on the home screen provides a personalized daily summary.
  • Smart Suggestions: The AI detects user routines and proposes automatic actions.
  • AI-assisted creation tools: New tools include Audio Eraser, AI Montage, and Best Pose.

This contextual approach to AI profoundly changes usage, enabling more natural interaction with the smartphone.

Who are these for, and at what price ? 🤔

The Galaxy S25 lineup targets a wide audience, from tech enthusiasts to professionals and those looking for a smart assistant.

  • If you own a Galaxy S24 Ultra, the S25 Ultra is an interesting upgrade but not essential. Waiting one or two generations to upgrade might be a better choice.
  • If you own a Galaxy S24 or S24+, the changes are minor. Upgrading to the S25 is only worthwhile if the new software features and AI capabilities are of particular interest. Moreover, these features might eventually arrive on older Samsung models via updates.

Prices remain similar to the previous models: starting at €899 for the Galaxy S25, €1169 for the S25+, and €1469 for the S25 Ultra. The Galaxy S25 series will be available starting February 7, 2025.

With the Galaxy S25 lineup, Samsung demonstrates that the future of smartphones increasingly depends on software. AI is becoming the main driver of innovation, with user experience at the forefront. While not everything is perfect, it’s clear that a significant shift is underway. The question is whether this AI-focused approach will win over all users. What do you think?
