Samsung’s new Galaxy smartphones are arriving a little earlier than expected this year. For this new iteration, Samsung has made slight adjustments to the design of its brand new flagship smartphones, to focus on the interior of the smartphones. We break it all down.
A more minimalist design 🤩
Last year, while the Galaxy S22 and S22+ were based on the design of the Galaxy S21 with the photo module grouping all the lenses, the Galaxy S22 Ultra introduced a brand new design for the range with photo modules visually isolated from each other. For this new batch, Samsung has decided to standardize the design of its range. The new Galaxy S23 takes the aesthetic codes introduced last year with the S22 Ultra, as you can see below.
The screen sizes are the same as last year, namely 6.1 inches for the S23 and 6.6 inches for the S23+, with a refresh rate ranging from 48Hz to 120Hz, for a more fluid use.
Top performance 🚀
The big news this year is the new chip they integrate. Usually, Galaxy smartphones always had 2 chips: the Snapdragon chip, used by almost all Android smartphones, for the United States and India, and the home-made Exynos chip for the rest of the world. Except that Samsung’s in-house chip was always inferior to the Snapdragon chip. As a result, we ended up with Galaxy smartphones that performed better in some markets than in others. It was even worse last year because the smartphones equipped with the Exynos chip suffered from significant heating and poor autonomy. So this year Samsung decided to integrate Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chip in all its smartphones. The figures announced are a boost of :
- 34% for the CPU to perform your tasks faster
- 44% for the GPU to have better performance for your favorite games
- 49% for the NPU to allow the phone to process your photos faster during the day and night, and to apply the different effects and filters faster.
For the rest of the technical data sheet, nothing changes drastically compared to last year. If the screen is brighter and the selfie camera goes from 10 megapixels to 12 megapixels, the main photo sensors do not change.
- 50 megapixel wide-angle lens (f/1.8),
- 12 megapixel ultra-wide angle lens (f/2.2),
- 10 megapixel x3 telephoto lens (f/2.4).
Samsung has also inflated the batteries of its smartphones by 200mAh more than the previous generation (3900mAh for the 23 and 4700mAh for the S23+), which should offer a better longevity to your smartphone. We are waiting for the tests to confirm this. On the charging side, the S23 can go up to 25W, while the S23 Plus benefits from a faster 45W charging. Unfortunately, the charger is no longer included in the box.
The Samsung Galaxy S23 and S23+ are available in 4 colors, cream, green black and lavender, plus 2 colors exclusive to the Samsung website, graphite and lime. To get them, you will have to pay :
- Galaxy S23 : 959 euros for 128Gb of storage and 1019 euros for 256Gb of storage
Galaxy S23 : 1219 euros for 256Gb of storage and 1339 euros for 512Gb of storage
They are available now for pre-order for delivery from February 14, with an introductory offer that doubles the storage. For example, you have the option to pick up the 256GB S23 for the price of the 128GB one.
Galaxy S23 Ultra: Samsung goes all out on the photo 📸
While the S23 Ultra shares the same processor as its smaller brothers, it goes a lot further when it comes to photography. It features a new 200MP sensor that works intelligently to give you great shots day or night. It uses a technology called Pixel Bining, which combines several pixels into one large pixel, making it possible to capture more light and thus offer good quality photos in any condition. The result is breathtaking quality photos day and night. Samsung has also improved video quality this year by improving video stabilization. No more videos that move in all directions.
The S Pen is still part of the game and is housed at the bottom left. Samsung has also slightly revised the design of its s23 by flattening that fits better in hand. The battery does not change, but with the new chip, we expect a better autonomy. Its 6.8-inch screen with a refresh rate ranging from 1Hz to 120Hz should also help the battery. Like the S23+, it has a 45W fast charge, which can recharge 50% of the battery in 20 minutes.
Like the S23 and S23+, it is offered in four colors, cream, black, green and lavender, at prices of
- 1419 euros for 256 GB of storage and 8 GB of RAM;
- 1599 euros for 512 GB of storage and 12 GB of RAM;
- 1839 euros for 1 TB of storage and 12 GB of RAM.
