The Ministry of National Education and Literacy of Côte d’Ivoire launched the National Education Digitalization Strategy (SNDE-CI) for 2024-2028 on October 24, 2024. This project, estimated at 220.7 billion CFA francs, aims to introduce digital tools in education on a large scale to improve the quality of education and enhance accessibility.

Financing required to bring digitalization to life💰

The Ministry of National Education and Literacy (MENA) officially presented Côte d’Ivoire’s National Education Digitalization Strategy (SNDE-CI) at a meeting in Abidjan. The Minister of National Education, Mariatou Koné, emphasized the importance of mobilizing 220.7 billion CFA francs over five years to carry out this digital transformation. The funds will be used to train teachers, equip schools with technological devices, and install digital infrastructure in educational institutions. The ministry is seeking support from technical and financial partners to help make the Ivorian education system more modern and inclusive.

How the SNDE-CI project will operate🛠️

The SNDE-CI project has several key components, which include:

  • Teacher Training and Support: The project plans to provide training for educational staff to ensure they master digital tools, which are essential for teaching effectively in a digital environment.
  • Acquisition of Digital Equipment 📱: MENA will invest in tablets, computers, and other digital devices for schools, with a focus on underserved regions.
  • Deployment of Digital Infrastructure: To ensure reliable connectivity, the project will include the installation of internet networks and other technological infrastructure to enhance accessibility in both rural and urban areas.

Innovation for Areas Without Internet: « My Mobile Digital Classroom » 📡

A major innovation of the SNDE-CI is the « My Mobile Digital Classroom » initiative. This system is designed to provide access to remote education in areas without internet and electricity. In partnership with UNICEF, the ministry has introduced this solution to reduce disparities in access to education. UNICEF has provided high-performance tablets, tailored to the needs of remote regions, with long battery life to ensure prolonged use without network access.

Support from UNICEF and Inspiration for Other African Countries🤝

Jean François Basse, UNICEF’s representative, reaffirmed the organization’s support for SNDE-CI at the launch ceremony. During a visit to Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon’s Minister of Secondary Education, Pauline Nalova Lyonga, expressed her admiration for this strategy and considered drawing inspiration from it to modernize education in her own country.

The SNDE-CI marks a significant step toward a more accessible, connected, and equitable education system in Côte d’Ivoire, providing students and teachers with the tools needed to thrive in a digital world.
