Gabon bets on digital technology to revolutionize higher education 👨🏾‍🏫

The integration of digital technologies is gradually transforming education, but their adoption in higher education remains a challenge. To address this, the Gabonese Ministry of Higher Education, in partnership with the Université Numérique du Gabon (UNG) and international experts, is launching a training program in techno-pedagogy. This initiative, aimed at fifty teacher-researchers, seeks to enhance their skills in using digital tools and AI.

Modernizing higher education 🎓

Launched on February 24, this training program helps teachers leverage information and communication technologies to improve the quality of teaching. This approach promotes automation, personalized learning paths, and the creation of innovative content.

« The university of tomorrow is being built today, and it cannot develop without the massive integration of digital tools and artificial intelligence, » stated the Minister of Higher Education, Professor Marcelle Ibinga épouse Itsitsa.

She also highlighted the challenges facing the sector, including the growing number of students and the need for more specialized training programs.

Towards more accessible distance learning 🌍

According to Dr. Dyana Ndiadé Bourobou, Head of Studies, Research, and Innovation (DERI-UNG), this initiative aims to integrate digital technology into higher education. The goal is to provide tailored solutions for teachers while addressing the issue of increasing student numbers.

« If you have forty thousand students, it is impossible to accommodate them all in classrooms, but they can take courses online, » explains Gabriel Nsie, a trainer at UNG.

UNG also plans to implement « white bands, » which will allow students to connect to educational resources for free without using their internet data.

With this project, Gabon is embracing digital technology to make higher education more inclusive, accessible, and efficient.
