China has announced an international competition dedicated to promoting artificial intelligence. The initiative is designed to encourage African countries to reposition themselves within a global landscape increasingly shaped by emerging technologies. Through this contest, Beijing seeks to stimulate innovation across the continent and foster the development of locally grounded solutions tailored to contemporary challenges.

Digital tech meets diplomacy 🤝💻

In this context, digital technology is being positioned as a strategic lever to strengthen diplomatic ties between China and Africa, at a time when their relationship spans several decades of cooperation. The competition is expected to attract projects across a wide range of sectors, including sports, education, healthcare, and environmental sustainability.

The objective is clear: to spotlight initiatives capable of driving long-term transformation in African societies and accelerating development through artificial intelligence.

“It’s a good thing to see more opportunities like this emerging globally. The more there are, the more young people are encouraged to get involved,” says Victoire Baleguel, a student at the National Advanced School of Engineering in Yaoundé.

What’s at stake 🏆✨

At the end of the competition, the most promising projects will receive substantial support from Chinese authorities. Winners will have the opportunity to closely explore China’s digital ecosystem, widely regarded as one of the most advanced in the world in robotics and artificial intelligence.

They will also benefit from international media exposure, while potential partnerships could emerge to support the implementation and scaling of their solutions.

“This competition represents a real opportunity. I hope to take part and go as far as possible,” says Yvan, a young IT specialist.

Who can apply 🎓🚀

The competition is open to a broad range of participants, including students, researchers, entrepreneurs, and professionals working within Africa’s digital ecosystem. This diversity reflects a clear intention to engage all segments of the innovation landscape capable of proposing impactful and relevant solutions.
