Côte d’Ivoire’s nurses can now register with their professional order online 🩺🇨🇮

Côte d’Ivoire’s Ministry of Health, Public Hygiene and Universal Health Coverage is pushing ahead with the digitization of its services. On August 19, 2026, the ministry officially launched a digital platform for registering with the National Order of Nurses of Côte d’Ivoire (ONIICI, its French acronym). The new tool is meant to simplify registration for nursing professionals and modernize how the order manages its records nationwide.

Paperwork, minus the paperwork 📲

Standing in for Health Minister Pierre Dimba at the launch ceremony, the ministry’s inspector general of health, Dr. Kpaho Bernard, presented the platform as serving several strategic goals. First, it’s meant to simplify and speed up the administrative process for nurses. Second, it’s expected to cut down processing times for registration files.

The platform is also designed to improve traceability of the various steps involved and strengthen transparency in how the order’s official register is managed — giving professionals a digital tool better suited to how they actually work today.

Nurses urged to get on board quickly 👩🏾‍⚕️

At the launch, Dr. Kpaho Bernard addressed Côte d’Ivoire’s nursing community directly, urging them to adopt the new platform quickly and complete their registration as soon as possible. Doing so lets them stay compliant with current regulations and practice their profession within the bounds of the law. Digitizing registration, in other words, isn’t just an administrative upgrade — it’s also meant to make it easier for nurses to meet the obligations that come with the job.

Beyond streamlining paperwork, the initiative is also a reminder of the role the order plays in overseeing the profession. Dr. Kpaho Bernard emphasized the responsibilities that come with working in healthcare: « Belonging to a health profession comes with rights, but also duties. It requires every professional to respect patients, human dignity, professional confidentiality, good-practice standards, as well as principles of ethics and professional conduct, » he said.

Seen this way, the order’s official register is more than a formality — it’s a tool for protecting the public. It reportedly helps uphold professional and ethical standards and plays a role in cracking down on unlicensed practice. The order is also credited with elevating the nursing profession as a whole, reportedly strengthening trust between healthcare workers and the communities they serve.
