Gabon looks to Rwanda’s model to digitize its public services 🇬🇦 🇷🇼

After a near two-week immersion in Rwanda, a delegation from Gabon’s Ministry of the Interior, Security and Decentralization has wrapped up its program on digital transformation. The mission gave Gabonese officials a close look at several components of Rwanda’s digital experience.

Several digital areas on the agenda 🌐

Throughout the immersion, the Gabonese delegation looked into a range of areas tied to Rwanda’s digital transformation. Discussions covered electronic governance, as well as artificial intelligence and national digital policy.

The delegation also examined Rwanda’s systems for digitizing civil registration and identification services. Cybersecurity, data protection, and privacy were also on the agenda.

System interconnection and the rollout of digital services were studied too. At the same time, the Gabonese representatives explored the digitalization of public services at the decentralized level.

IREMBO platform takes center stage 📱

The delegation also looked closely at IREMBO, Rwanda’s platform for delivering government services online. The immersion gave officials a clearer picture of the approaches Rwanda has used to support the digital transformation of public services and make them more accessible through digital tools.

Over the course of these two weeks, the mission became an opportunity to share experiences, best practices, and lessons drawn from Rwanda’s digital transformation journey.

Still, IREMBO’s success also rests on institutional choices and investments specific to Rwanda — ones Gabon will need to adapt to its own administrative and budgetary context if it hopes for a comparable outcome.
