Ghana’s Cyber Security Authority (CSA) launched the 2026 edition of National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM) on September 1st. The nationwide campaign, running from October 1 to 31, 2026, aims to raise public awareness of cybersecurity risks. The Authority is calling on relevant stakeholders and media outlets alike to step up education on safe digital practices, as citizens face an evolving landscape of cyber threats.

Digital finance takes center stage 🔐💰

Held every year, NCSAM aims to deepen public and institutional understanding of digital risks, while building national capacity to respond to emerging threats. This year’s campaign runs under the theme « Securing Ghana’s Digital Finance Ecosystem: Building Trust Through Collaboration and Cyber Resilience, » and is entirely dedicated to protecting Ghana’s digital finance ecosystem.

At the campaign’s media launch, officials urged every sector to treat cybersecurity as far more than a regulatory box to tick. That call was directed squarely at financial institutions, fintech companies, payment service providers, insurance firms, and merchants.

According to government representatives, cyber-resilience must now be built into how companies are governed and run day to day. Officials noted that digital financial services are playing an increasingly central role in Ghana’s economy — a shift driven largely by the changing nature of attacks targeting the digital finance ecosystem.

Reported incidents show that cybercriminals are increasingly targeting the sector through online fraud, identity theft, hijacked payments, and compromised business email accounts. Against that backdrop, public trust has become essential to the continued growth of digital finance.

Media urged to make digital education a habit 📰💻

Ghanaian authorities say media outlets have an important part to play in the country’s cybersecurity efforts. They specifically called on journalists and media companies to make cybersecurity education a regular part of their work — not something confined to NCSAM’s single month each year.

Officials also encouraged media outlets to go beyond simply reporting on the financial and personal losses caused by cybercrime. Instead, they’re being asked to give the public practical information: how cyberattacks actually happen, how to prevent them, and who to contact when something goes wrong. Media outlets, in that sense, are being positioned as key partners in helping citizens understand — and respond to — online threats.

On the financial sector side, experts say cyber-resilience has become a necessity for financial companies. As financial institutions lean increasingly on digital platforms to deliver their services, protecting that infrastructure is turning into a central concern.

Strengthening collaboration between the different players in the financial ecosystem is seen as key. That closer collaboration is meant to better protect consumers and preserve their trust in digital financial services.

It also means striking a balance between financial innovation and robust cybersecurity measures. As digital finance keeps expanding, financial institutions, businesses, and consumers alike are being asked to treat security as a collective priority — right alongside convenience and growth.
