Adopt Multiple accounts on WhatsApp 📱

WhatsApp is finally allowing everyone to use a second account on the application from the same smartphone, as Meta proudly announces in a blog post. Up until now, the instant messaging application only allowed one account per device.

Multiple accounts in the same WhatsApp application

Multi-account functionality was eagerly awaited by the general public. Indeed, it was a real issue for users who want to manage their personal and professional lives while keeping just one device. If you’re a Telegram regular, you’ll be familiar with this feature.

This new option offers simplified management from a single device. Until now, managing two WhatsApp accounts on a single smartphone was possible, but somewhat restrictive. You had to use WhatsApp for one account and WhatsApp Business for the second, or duplicate the application (twin applications). For the smart ones, workarounds such as Dual Messenger or the secure folder were necessary.

With the new messaging function, a simple menu lets you set up multiple WhatsApp accounts. These are stored on the device until you decide to disconnect from the account. Practical for preserving privacy, efficiently managing notifications and switching from one account to another without having to use parallel applications.

How do I add a second account?

Before we explain how to add a second account on WhatsApp, there are a few things you need to know about this feature. First of all, although the function is called multiple accounts, for the moment you can only add one second account. Moreover, since you absolutely need a phone number to create one, you’ll need a second phone number. So you’ll need a second SIM card and a second phone number, or a phone that supports multiple SIMs or eSIMs.

If this is the case, simply open the settings, press the arrow to the right of your name and select « Add account ». All that’s left to do is follow the on-screen instructions.

If you already have your WhatsApp account on another phone, you can still add it to a second phone. It will then be considered as an additional device, a bit like WhatsApp Web.

Once both your accounts are set up, you can switch from one to the other by tapping on your profile photo in the top right-hand corner of the home page.

This new feature comes at a time when Meta is orienting its instant messaging towards a more « social network » side, notably with its Channels (Click here to read the article), even though the company is working on a number of projects to reinforce security and user data protection. We can only hope that this multiple-account support will extend to companion devices linked to the main phone.

So, what do we say to Meta? A thank you🥰? Feel free to tell us what you think of this flurry of features.
