Send view once voice messages👻

View once media make the messages you send to one or more recipients ephemeral. As the name suggests, once opened, they can no longer be accessed by you or your recipient. This is a very useful feature for sharing media while guaranteeing that they will not be available later.

While the view once feature was already available for photos and videos, it has now been extended to voice messages. To send view once voice messages:

  • Open an individual or group chat.
  • Swipe up to lock the recording.
  • Tap and hold record.
  • Tap view once
    • When this turns green, you’re in view once mode.
  • Tap send
If the recipient has read receipts enabled, you’ll see an opened receipt in the chat when they’ve opened your view once media or voice message.

Be careful who you send view once media to ⚠️

However, it is important to note that single-view media do not guarantee absolute privacy. The following points should be kept in mind:

  • There are other methods for recording view once media or listen once voice messages. For example, recipients can capture a photo or video of the single-view media using a camera or other device before it disappears.
  • Encrypted media can be stored for a few weeks on WhatsApp servers after being sent.
  • If a recipient chooses to report a single-view media or single-listen voice message, it will be forwarded to WhatsApp.
  • If you or your recipient use an Android device, single-listener voice and audio messages can be recorded using the native capture tool.
