To address operational challenges and face increasing competition, Campost is launching a digital addressing system in collaboration with the Cameroonian startup FindMe. This project aims to provide each citizen, even in remote areas, with a digital postal address, optimizing delivery operations.
Campost faces competition 📈
For several years, Campost has faced significant challenges in a postal sector marked by fierce competition. With 42 licensed operators and around 250 unofficial ones, Cameroon’s postal and logistics market has become a battleground. To respond to this pressure, Campost, Cameroon’s public postal operator, has strategically partnered with FindMe. The Senegalese startup specializes in digital and physical addressing solutions. This alliance aims to transform Campost’s practices by leveraging technology to improve operational efficiency.
The project, launched on November 1, 2024, in partnership with FindMe, will enable every Cameroonian to obtain a digital postal address.
« Thanks to this innovation, Campost will now be able to offer a digital postal address to every citizen, even in areas not covered by the traditional postal network, » said Pierre Kaldadak, CEO of Campost.
Until now, access to a postal address was contingent upon having a physical post office box, excluding a portion of the population. With this new service, every citizen will be able to obtain an address, which will allow the geolocation of any building, be it a private residence, office, or commercial point of sale.
A free service with a paid option 💸
In practical terms, FindMe allows users to create a geolocated address in under two minutes through the FindMe House mobile app. This address includes information such as building number, street name, and postal code, integrated with navigation tools like Google Maps and Waze.
Although the basic service is free, users can purchase a Postal Location Plan (PLP) for 2,000 CFA francs. This plan, compliant with Know Your Customer (KYC) standards, serves as an official document useful for tasks like opening a bank account or applying for credit. The goal is to replace often imprecise handwritten plans, making it easier to provide proof of address.
E-commerce and precise geolocation📍
The geolocation technology developed by FindMe enables Campost to implement a highly precise digital addressing system, which offers multiple advantages for postal operations. This system’s geolocation accuracy allows Campost delivery drivers to spend less time locating addresses, a problem that currently takes up about 40% of their delivery time. By optimizing routes, this system speeds up deliveries, fosters e-commerce, and enables businesses to offer faster and more accurate delivery services to customers.
Since 2022, Campost has outsourced some courier services to 18 private companies. These companies will also benefit from the innovations provided by this digital addressing project.
« In an increasingly digitalized world, it is essential to offer modern, precise, and internationally compliant solutions. FindMe provides an innovative, inclusive, and sustainable solution that leverages digitization to modernize the postal sector, » said Brandon Wanguep, CEO of FindMe.
A step towards universal and inclusive service 🌐
With this initiative, Campost is taking a step toward a universal service model that meets the needs of the entire population. The ability to offer digital postal addresses, even in areas not served by a post office, reflects an inclusive and modern vision of postal services. For Pierre Kaldadak, this innovation is also a step towards Campost’s integration into Cameroon’s digital transformation. This advancement is expected to strengthen access to postal services nationwide, giving every citizen a « postal identity card, » thereby enhancing connectivity and facilitating access to delivery and e-commerce services.
A modernized service✨
The launch of this digital addressing system with FindMe represents more than just a technological project for Campost. It marks a strategic shift towards a modern postal service adapted to the realities of the 21st century. Through this innovation, Campost hopes not only to improve customer service but also to become a model for other African companies in adopting modern, inclusive practices for human and economic development.
