YouTube has a new trick to keep you from skipping ads 😲

It’s no secret that YouTube is stepping up its efforts to prevent users from skipping ads. The latest of these concerns the button for skipping ads.

A more discreet button 🤫

Some time ago, we learned that YouTube was testing a new method of countering ad blockers. As you can read in our previous article by clicking here, the platform was testing a notification for users using ad blockers.

YouTube’s latest experiment concerns the « Skip Ads » button. It was discovered by the Search Engine Land website.

As you can see from the two screenshots above, the new button features smaller text, a background with reduced opacity, rounded contours and no capital letters in the word « ads ».

Reached by Search Engine Land, a YouTube manager said:

“We’re testing an update to the design of the ‘Skip Ads’ button across all platforms. Our goal is to provide a more consistent user experience in line with the updated look and feel on YouTube we announced last year.”

While this change may seem insignificant at first glance, it could have repercussions on the audience for Google ads. Indeed, as the new button is more discreet, it would become less obvious for users to spot, encouraging them to spend more time in front of ads.

This new button is still being tested, so we’ll keep you posted.
