YouTube Premium enhances its offer with new features 📺

YouTube Premium, the online video platform’s paid service, has announced a number of new features designed to enhance the experience of its subscribers. These additions are designed to offer users greater control and flexibility in their content consumption.

Simplified navigation with « Jump Ahead ⏩

Among the standout features is the « Jump Ahead » function. This feature allows users to jump directly to the most-viewed moments in a video. To access it, simply double-tap on the right-hand side of the screen to jump forward 10 seconds, then a dedicated button appears to jump to the next key moment. This button is powered by a combination of AI and viewing data, offering a smoother, more intuitive experience. Currently available to Premium subscribers in the U.S. on Android, this feature will soon be accessible on iOS.

Picture-in-Picture for Shorts😮

YouTube Premium also extends « Picture in Picture » mode to Shorts videos. Now, users can watch their favorite Shorts while using other apps or checking messages. This feature is available on Android in the US, with an imminent launch on iOS. This enables an optimized multitasking experience, giving users more flexibility and comfort when browsing YouTube.

Early access to experimental features

YouTube Premium subscribers get early access to new features being tested on youtube.com/new. Among these new features is the Smart Shorts Downloads functionality. This automatically delivers a selection of recommended Shorts, downloadable for offline viewing.

Another available feature is the new layout of the playback page. Currently in testing, it promises to improve the viewing experience on the web version of YouTube.

Finally, in keeping with the AI hype, YouTube is working on a new conversational AI. This assistant can answer questions, suggest related content and more, without interrupting video playback. Users can activate this feature by tapping on « Ask » under certain videos and ask questions or select suggested prompts.

YouTube listens to its subscribers 👂🏾

YouTube takes advantage of these announcements to thank its Premium subscribers for their valuable feedback. The company says it is continually working to improve the viewing and downloading experience, including resolving storage issues on devices and improving 1080p bitrate for Premium subscribers. It is also working to improve the experience of queue management and access to Premium orders.

These improvements come after an increase in Premium subscription rates last summer. YouTube is seeking to justify this increase by enriching its offer, while encouraging new users to subscribe in the face of increasing advertising on the free version.
