Access to digital technology remains a challenge in many African communities, where infrastructure and training opportunities are still limited. In Chad, the authorities say they are working to narrow that digital divide by creating spaces for learning, innovation and access to digital services. As part of that push, the Agency for the Development of Information and Communication Technologies (ADETIC) inaugurated a Community Multimedia Center in Moundou, in southern Chad, on 29 September 2026. The facility is meant to be a place for training, mentoring and tech access, with the stated goal of putting digital tools to work for local development.

A lever for digital inclusion and skills 🎓

The center aims to widen access to information technology by giving local residents an equipped space to learn and build digital skills. Young people are expected to be able to pick up computer skills, tap into online educational resources and get comfortable with everyday digital tools. The program also reportedly includes support for women entrepreneurs and for founders of projects who want to make use of digital opportunities.

Through the initiative, digital technology is framed as a tool of inclusion, one that can open up access to knowledge, information and new economic prospects.

Infrastructure built for modern tech use 🖥️

Beyond training, the Moundou center comes with equipment covering several areas of digital work. The building houses a computer training room for hands-on practice, along with a dedicated cybersecurity room. That second space points to growing attention to data protection and secure digital habits, at a time when connected services are multiplying.

The facility also has a 120-seat meeting room, administrative offices and a technical room with servers. That setup is meant to host a range of IT-related activities and keep the equipment running smoothly. A cafeteria rounds things out, with the aim of turning the center into a meeting point for exchanges on innovation and digital skills.

A project within Chad’s digital transformation 🚀

At the inauguration ceremony, ADETIC director general Adoum Djimet Saboun said the project fits the authorities’ aim of making digital technology a driver of progress and better living conditions. The stated goal is to bring technology closer to communities and let more citizens tap into the opportunities of digital transformation. By building training and access spaces outside the capital, N’Djamena, the government is also seeking to reduce regional disparities in digital access.

The presence of several administrative, civil and military officials at the ceremony suggests the authorities see this type of facility as part of their national digital strategy. With this center, Moundou now has a dedicated space for training, cybersecurity and technology adoption, a sign of the growing weight of digital in Chad’s development and inclusion policies.
