On September 10, 2024, Huawei made a bold statement by unveiling its latest technological gem, the Huawei Mate XT. This is a foldable smartphone in three parts, a world first. This highly anticipated model introduces an innovative design and features that could surpass current standards set by tech giants like Apple and Samsung.
A revolutionary accordion design 🪗
The Huawei Mate XT stands out with its « accordion » design, capable of folding into three thanks to two hinges. While similar prototypes had been seen before, this is the first mass-produced and commercialized smartphone with this unique format. In tablet mode, the 10.2-inch OLED screen unfolds, offering an impressive resolution of 2232 x 3184 pixels. When folded, it becomes a compact smartphone with a 6.4-inch screen, combining the flexibility of a tablet with the practicality of a phone.
With the Mate XT, Huawei proves that innovation is still possible in a saturated market. This smartphone positions itself as a bold alternative to more conventional models from Apple and Samsung, offering unique features that its competitors have not yet explored.
Performance that delivers 🚀
Huawei didn’t just revolutionize the design. The Mate XT is equipped with high-end components, including a slim yet powerful 5600 mAh battery. It offers remarkable battery life despite the limited space left by the dual hinge. Charging is also optimized, with fast wired charging at 66W and 50W wireless charging.
Under the hood, this smartphone could be powered by Huawei’s in-house Kirin 9010 processor, already seen in the Huawei Pura 70 Ultra. It comes with 16 GB of RAM and storage options ranging from 256 GB to 1 TB.
A versatile camera 📸
In terms of photography, the Huawei Mate XT doesn’t disappoint. It features an octagonal module composed of several sensors. The primary 50-megapixel sensor has a variable aperture from f/1.4 to f/4.0, adapting to various lighting conditions. It is complemented by a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens. Finally, a 12-megapixel periscopic telephoto lens offers 5.5x optical zoom. There is also an 8-megapixel front camera for selfies.
An imposing price 🤑
This innovation comes at a price. The Huawei Mate XT is offered starting at 19,999 yuan, or about 2,500 euros before tax for the version with 256 GB of storage and 16 GB of RAM. For the maximum configuration, with 1 TB of storage, the price rises to 23,999 yuan (about 3,050 euros before tax). Huawei is making a big statement, not only in terms of innovation but also in terms of pricing, placing itself at the high end of the smartphone market.
For now, the Huawei Mate XT is exclusively sold in China. It remains to be seen whether this revolutionary smartphone will be available in other markets, particularly in Europe. Indeed, restrictions related to the US embargo could complicate its launch.
With the Huawei Mate XT, the Chinese brand shows that it’s still possible to innovate in the foldable smartphone market. This ambitious model could well put Huawei back in the technological spotlight, facing Samsung and Apple. However, its high price and limited availability could hinder its international adoption. Nevertheless, the Mate XT remains a technological feat that marks a turning point in the smartphone industry.
