The South Korean manufacturer LG has integrated ads into the screensavers of its TVs, replacing the usual landscape images with advertisements. This new feature, activated by default on some models like the G4 OLED, can still be disabled in the settings.
Ads take over TVs 📺
LG has introduced a new feature on its TVs called « promotional screensavers. » Instead of soothing traditional images, ads now appear during periods of inactivity. While the first discovery was on the G4 OLED model, it is likely that other TVs are affected.
The ads shown are not limited to the brand’s services. In addition to LG Channels, users may see ads for cars or other unrelated products. This strategy allows LG to optimize idle screen time by turning it into an advertising platform.
Disabling option, but a growing trend ⚙️
This feature is enabled by default but can be disabled in the settings. LG defends this initiative, claiming it increases brand visibility by 2.5 times. However, this advertising trend, also adopted by other manufacturers like Samsung and Roku, might not appeal to all users.
