Today’s so-called Narrow or Weak Artificial Intelligences may appear intelligent because they can perform specific, complex tasks with great precision. However, they have no real understanding or awareness of what they are doing.
They’re taught
They are designed using mainly learning techniques. We show them lots of examples, correcting them when they get things wrong, and then testing them with new situations. It’s a bit like teaching a dog to recognize objects.
