On October 11, 2024, Ivory Coast and Guinea took a significant step in their digital collaboration by signing a strategic partnership agreement. This agreement, signed by Ibrahim Kalil Konaté, Minister of Digital Transition and Digitalization of Ivory Coast, and Rose Pola Pricemou, Minister of Posts, Telecommunications, and Digital Economy of Guinea, aims to strengthen the ties between the two nations in the digital field.
Objectives of the agreement🎯
The objective of this agreement is to promote cooperation in several key sectors, including fiber optic interconnection, postal services, and the sharing of telecommunications expertise. Rose Pola Pricemou highlighted the importance of this initiative in stimulating a dynamic digital economy, explaining to the media that this agreement goes beyond the physical interconnection of networks.
Both countries have committed to developing innovative services, strengthening cybersecurity, and promoting digital inclusion. Pilot projects will also be launched in areas such as smart agriculture, digital health, and online education to create new business opportunities and improve the quality of life for their populations.
Development prospects 📈
Guinea’s Minister of Posts, Telecommunications, and Digital Economy, Rose Pola Pricemou, described this agreement as a symbolic way to bring the two nations closer, using fiber optics and digital innovation as vectors of unity. Ibrahim Kalil Konaté from Ivory Coast emphasized the need to pool efforts and resources to successfully carry out their digital projects. According to him, this collaboration will help reduce the costs of the investments required for digital transformation.
Through this cooperation, Ivory Coast and Guinea aspire to improve their rankings in the field of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). Currently, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) ranks Ivory Coast 16th out of 47 countries in the ICT development index, with a score of 65.3 out of 100. Guinea, however, has yet to appear in this ranking.
