Ethiopia’s police services are taking a major step forward in their modernization journey, powered by technological innovation. Authorities have introduced an ambitious project aimed at transforming traditional police stations into digital hubs capable of delivering faster, more efficient services tailored to citizens’ evolving needs.

Addis Ababa embraces smart security 🏙️

In Addis Ababa, the country’s capital, the security sector is undergoing a significant transformation. Simplicity, speed, and continuity now define this new-generation police station. The initiative is part of a broader effort to modernize public administration and strengthen the relationship between law enforcement and citizens.

The announcement was made on March 22 by the Ethiopian News Agency (ENA), which described the project as a major milestone in the digital transformation of security services. Through this innovation, authorities aim to align policing structures with the realities of an increasingly connected society.

How does it work? 💻

Inside this smart police station, users interact directly with digital kiosks installed on-site. The traditional counter is no longer the only gateway to administrative services.

Citizens can now file complaints, pay certain fees, or request official documents without needing direct assistance from an officer. The goal is clear: reduce waiting times and speed up service delivery.

To enhance traceability and user support, a video assistance system guides citizens through each step of the process. The system also offers 24/7 access, ensuring a level of continuity rarely seen in conventional police stations.

Artificial intelligence plays a central role in this transformation of security services. “This innovation significantly improves the quality of service provided to citizens and contributes to strengthening the judicial system and police services,” said Andnet Sisay, head of the technology department at Ethiopia’s federal police.

Administrative delays and frustrations linked to bureaucratic procedures are expected to decline, paving the way for a more efficient and transparent system. Physical interactions are reduced, making room for streamlined digital processes.

Through this transformation, Ethiopia is gradually aligning its police infrastructure with international standards in administrative modernization, while offering citizens fast and continuous online assistance.
