Mauritania’s mining sector just got a tech upgrade. The Ministry of Mines and Industry has launched a new digital platform to monitor and manage mining and quarry exploitation permits. The goal? Boost transparency, ensure data reliability, and streamline the often cumbersome administrative procedures tied to licenses.
A One-Stop Digital Hub for Operators 🛠️
Accessible with a secure personal ID, the platform allows license holders to:
- Submit their technical and production data (BTR/BTE)
- Upload documents related to expenses and investments
- Update their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives
- File various administrative requests, from sending samples to obtaining regulatory approvals
Data confidentiality is guaranteed under Article 59 of the Mining Law, which governs activity reporting, environmental, administrative, and financial audits, as well as mandatory information transfers.
License holders can also reach out to regional ministry teams or email contact-mmi@mmi.gov.mr to request their login credentials and the user guide.
A Step Toward E-Governance 🌍
Ranked 174th out of 193 in the UN’s Global E-Government Development Index (score: 0.3491), Mauritania still lags behind in online public services and digital infrastructure. This platform marks a significant step in the country’s administrative modernization—especially in such a strategic sector as mining.
The innovation is expected to enhance transparency, improve environmental and administrative oversight, and strengthen investor confidence.
Beyond operational efficiency, this initiative reflects the government’s ambition to leverage digital tools to structure and grow the mining sector—putting Mauritania more firmly on the global map of attractive mining destinations.
