On October 20, 2025, Mozambique’s National Communications Institute (INCM) unveiled “Statistical Collection,” a digital platform that centralizes and automates the gathering and sharing of data across the country’s communications sector. The move replaces what was once a slow, manual process with a fully digital, secure, and transparent system.
Centralizing telecom and postal data under one digital roof 🖥️
The new Statistical Collection (Acervo Estatístico) platform serves as a single hub for all communications-related statistics in Mozambique. It tracks data across postal services, mobile and fixed telephony, internet, broadcasting, and radio communications.
Publicly accessible through a dedicated website and the INCM’s official portal, the system turns a traditionally paper-based process into a real-time digital workflow. Data is now available in a reliable and up-to-date format for market players, regulators, and researchers alike.
A digital shift with tangible benefits ✅
For licensed operators, the platform simplifies quarterly data submissions and offers key features such as:
- Secure online submission: Goodbye to delays, missing files, or incomplete reports.
- Automated aggregation: The platform generates validated reports and dashboards directly approved by the INCM.
- International compliance: Aligned with standards from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the Universal Postal Union (UPU).
Helena Fernandes, chairperson of the INCM board, emphasized that this digital transition positions Mozambique among the countries adopting best international practices in data collection and transparency. The platform gives operators, policymakers, and researchers quick access to more than 200 key performance indicators covering telecommunications and postal services.
More than 200 indicators for a clearer sector overview 📈
The platform consolidates over 200 metrics across various segments, including:
- Telecommunications: mobile and fixed-line penetration rates, subscriber breakdown by technology (2G to 5G), coverage, traffic (voice, SMS, data), and sector revenues and investments.
- Postal services: volume of domestic and international correspondence, number of service points, financial services, revenue, and distribution quality indicators.
According to Ana Priscila Salomão, head of the INCM’s Studies and Statistics Department, the system strengthens the regulator’s data-driven oversight and improves compliance tracking. It also provides valuable insights for policymakers, academics, and researchers.
Positive feedback from industry players 🌟
Operators like Correio Expresso de Moçambique and TV Cabo have already praised the platform, citing its ability to simplify data submission, ensure compliance, and support strategic decision-making.
With this initiative, Mozambique’s communications sector gains in transparency, reliability, and efficiency — aligning national regulation with international standards.
