DR Congo goes digital to fix its job market with ONEM.cd and Mikuba 🇨🇩💼

On July 9, 2026, in Kinshasa, the government of the Democratic Republic of Congo launched a new digital employment platform, ONEM.cd, alongside a companion mobile app, Mikuba by ONEM. Backed by the Ministry of Employment and Labor and developed with support from the Belgian development agency Enabel, the initiative is meant to connect job seekers with recruiters through digital tools — a first for the country’s public employment service.

Built for both job seekers and employers 💼

Available on both desktop and mobile, ONEM.cd lets job seekers create a profile, register online, browse available listings, and submit applications. On the other side, companies can post job openings, search for qualified candidates, and shortlist applicants directly through the platform.

According to Employment Minister Ferdinand Massamba Wa Massamba, the tool will also help build a national skills database. It’s expected to track hiring processes and generate real-time statistics for the employment sector — data the government says will help shape public employment policy and simplify administrative procedures for businesses.

Mikuba rounds out ONEM’s digital offering 📱

Alongside the web platform, the government also rolled out Mikuba by ONEM, a mobile app aimed at the same audience: job seekers and employers. The name Mikuba means « copper » in Swahili — a resource closely tied to DR Congo’s mineral wealth. According to some sources, the choice is meant to reflect the government’s broader push to use digital tools as a lever for development and for modernizing public services.

Through the app, job seekers can browse listings and apply straight from their phones, while employers get a tool to identify candidates matching their needs.

Enabel’s representative in DR Congo, Lies Vanmullem, said the platform and the app together form a single entry point into the country’s public employment service. The goal, officials say, is to make job opportunities more visible and accessible to Congolese citizens nationwide.

An ONEM-led push for reform 🏢

According to ONEM’s director general, Fanon Beya Ngombe, the agency is responsible for organizing the country’s labor market, supporting job seekers, and facilitating recruitment.

The launch of ONEM.cd and Mikuba by ONEM is expected to modernize the agency’s services and widen access to job opportunities. Officials frame the new tools as reinforcing that mission with services that are faster, more transparent, and more efficient. Ultimately, the government hopes the rollout will help boost transparency in the job market and reduce unemployment — particularly among young graduates.
