Telecom operator Yas opened its first Digital Store on September 21 in Moroni, the capital of the Comoros, an island nation in the Indian Ocean off Africa’s east coast. Located on the Corniche road, the new space is built around customer self-service, personalized support and paperless services.
Yas, a telecom operator in Comoros 📡🇰🇲
Yas is a telecommunications operator active in Comoros. It offers communication services and digital solutions for individuals and businesses, including the Yas App, which puts digital services directly on customers’ phones.
That is the backdrop for the new store. Yas says it is modernizing the customer experience, and according to its leadership, the Moroni opening is the next step in that shift.
A store built around digital 📱💻
With this new concept, Yas wants to change the traditional in-store journey. Customers can browse the operator’s offers and services on their own, use the Yas App and ask advisors for help when they need it. Yas CEO Christophe Olivier says the move follows changing digital habits, and that the Digital Store should bring digital services closer to Comorians.
The setup also changes how customers are welcomed. Chenaz Abdallah, Yas’s customer experience director, says visitors can explore offers and services more independently. Advisors remain available, but their role is to guide: they point customers in the right direction, while customers make their own choices.
The goal, in short, is a more interactive journey, with digital gradually taking center stage in the store.
Advisors trade desktops for tablets 💻📱
According to the information shared by the operator, the biggest change is the equipment advisors use. Unlike in traditional stores, they no longer work from fixed computer stations. They now carry tablets that give them access to Yas’s various apps and let them carry out transactions directly with customers.
That setup would shorten some steps. According to Yas, some operations can be completed in three to four minutes, a figure that comes from the operator itself. Paperwork is going digital too: a subscription can be finalized on the tablet with an electronic signature, though customers who prefer can still get a paper invoice.
Pushing digital habits 🌐🇰🇲
Beyond modernizing its retail outlets, Yas presents the Digital Store as a way to support the adoption of digital habits in Comoros. The operator says it wants to bring its digital services closer to the public and help make digital tools part of everyday routines.
The store is meant to be both a service point and a gateway to Yas’s digital tools. This first opening in Moroni is, in the operator’s telling, another step in its digital transformation in Comoros.
One question the announcement leaves open: will the model be rolled out to other cities or islands in the archipelago? The answer will show whether the Digital Store is a showcase or the new standard for how Yas deals with its customers.
What do you think of a store model where customers handle their own transactions with an advisor on hand? Would it work where you live? Let us know in the comments.
