Google Photos’ locked folder comes to iOS and the Web 🔐

The Google Photos application is a handy way of preserving the various moments we capture with our smartphone. Until now, only Android users have been able to secure specific photos and videos. However, thanks to a new update, this possibility is finally being extended to iOS and Web users.

Synchronization between your different devices ☁️

The Google Photos Locked Folder offers a protected space, accessible via an access code, which allows sensitive photos and videos to be archived on the device, keeping them exclusively in this space. As a result, they will not be visible in the photo grid, Memories, albums, nor detectable in searches within Google Photos. Nor will items in this folder appear in other applications. Until now, this feature has only been available on Android devices. So if you use Google Photos on an iOS device or on the web, it was not possible to access this private folder.

With its new update, Google now makes it possible to synchronize this folder with all your devices. Once you’ve activated the backup function for the Locked Folder, the content becomes accessible on all your devices as soon as you log in to Google Photos. Simply open the Locked Folder using your device’s access code.

As this feature is optional, you always have the option of storing content in Locked Folder on your device.

A more user-friendly parameter interface ⚙️

Google has also taken advantage of this update to simplify the Google Photos settings page. The new page puts aside its unique look with a multitude of settings, in favor of easy-to-navigate sections for privacy, saving, sharing, notifications and much more.

Updating your app will take you to this new settings page. However, as the Locked Folder backup feature is still being rolled out on iOS, it may not be immediately visible on your iPhone.
