« One More Thing… In the history of Apple, this little phrase has always been reserved for the presentation of a new product, a new category. This year, we had the chance to hear it at WWDC. Apple unveiled the first Apple product through which we look, not at.

Apple Vision Pro, mixed reality by Apple

Apple Vision Pro is a mixed-reality headset that uses a screen and cameras to blend the real world around you with the virtual world. Wearing it, you can see, hear and interact with digital content as if it were in your physical space. To control Vision Pro, simply use your eyes, fingers and voice.

Using a digital crown similar to the one found on the Apple Watch, you can precisely define your degree of immersion in virtual reality. You can go from your living room to a beach in a matter of moments.

Unlike other virtual reality headsets on the market, Vision Pro has an external screen that can project your eyes, making interactions more natural if you have people around you.

For those who wear glasses, there’s a system that lets you add prescription lenses that clip onto the inside of the helmet.

During its presentation, Apple presented two use cases for this new augmented reality headset: work and entertainment.

A new way of working 💻

In the workplace, the Apple Vision Pro can be used like a conventional computer, except that its screens are directly integrated into your environment, with applications floating in the air. You can also use a virtual keyboard or Bluetooth, or duplicate your Mac screen directly in the Vision Pro environment.

If you need to make a FaceTime call, no problem. But you’re probably wondering how others will see you, given that you’ll have a helmet on your head. Thanks to a registration process reminiscent of Face ID, Vision Pro is able to create a digital version of your face, which will then be used as a realistic avatar during your calls.

A more immersive entertainment experience 🎥

Entertainment takes on a whole new dimension with Apple Vision Pro. You’ll be able to recreate a cinema experience in your living room, by projecting a large screen in front of you. You can also view your vacation photos and even play games, all on a giant, totally virtual screen.

Vision Pro is also a 3D camera that lets you capture and view your memories in 3D. When recording, Vision Pro projects the user’s eyes onto the external screen, to indicate that you are filming.

Available in 2024

We’ll have to wait a long time before we can test the Apple Vision Pro. It won’t be available until early 2024, and then only in the United States. In the meantime, if you own an iPhone or iPad, you can already preview the product in augmented reality. Simply visit the Apple website using Safari.

The announced price is $3,499, excluding taxes.
