Microsoft does not waste time with AI. Just two months after the announcement of its new Bing, boosted by AI, the company better known for Windows, decides to go even further with its search engine. It is via a blogpost that it was announced the arrival of image generation on Bing.
Your words turn into works of art with Bing🪄
Microsoft introduces Bing Image Creator, an AI-based image generation tool. As for Bing Chat which uses GPT-4, the digital giant turned to its partner OpenAI, which provides the technological heart of this new tool, DALL.E.
With Bing Image Creator, it will be possible to create an image just by using a sentence describing the image you want. For a more precise result, you can add additional info like location or activity, and even choose an art style. This feature complements the existing text creation function.
Microsoft Edge should also welcome this new feature from Bing, via a dedicated « Bing Image Creator » button in the sidebar.
For those who have passed the queue and are in Bing Preview mode, Bing Image Creator will be integrated into Bing Chat, on web and mobile from today. It is initially accessible in Creative mode. And if you are not in this case, you can always test the tool on its dedicated web page, accessible by clicking here.
Microsoft wants to go fast, but not too fast 🏃🏾♂️
Microsoft was keen to point out that the development and deployment of their solution is guided by the Responsible AI principles and the Responsible AI Standard. In addition, they work closely with OpenAI to ensure responsible use of their tools, and this includes protections for both actors. The generation of harmful and dangerous images is highly regulated. If the system detects that a potentially dangerous image is going to be generated, it blocks the request and warns the user. And on each creation, an icon « Modified by Bing » will appear to indicate that it is an image generated by an AI.
In order not to make the same mistakes as at the launch of the new Bing, Microsoft will deploy this new feature to a handful of users, and only in Creative mode. With the different feedbacks, the operation in multi-turn chat will be optimized, and this feature will also be available in « Balanced » and « Precise » modes.
AI-powered cards are coming to classic Bing 🤖
To meet the increasing demand for visually engaging search experiences, Bing is now offering Stories and Knowledge Cards 2.0 to all its users. Stories provide an interactive way to search and engage with content through images and short videos. Additionally, Knowledge Cards 2.0 has been updated to include dynamic content such as charts, graphs, timelines and visual stories. This AI-powered experience presents key information and fun facts in an infographic-inspired format. The aim of Microsoft is to make finding answers and exploring the web more interesting, useful and enjoyable by delivering more immersive experiences in Bing and Edge.
