Google reimagines search and shopping with AI-powered experiences 🔍

At Google I/O 2025, it wasn’t just the company’s AI assistant that got a major upgrade. Google also unveiled sweeping changes to two cornerstones of our digital lives: web search and online shopping. Both are now infused with AI in ways that promise to make them more fluid, immersive, and deeply personalized. Welcome to the next chapter of the internet.

Search, but smarter: AI Mode changes everything 🧠

Google is radically reimagining how we search online with AI Mode, a new experience that goes far beyond a list of blue links. It’s an ambitious attempt to turn search into something closer to a conversation — and possibly the biggest shift in how we interact with the web in years.

With AI Mode enabled, the search experience is transformed. Instead of serving up static pages of links, Google now delivers smart, dynamic summaries that synthesize information from multiple sources. Results are organized into thematic sections presented as interactive cards, adapting in real-time to your query. Sources are clearly cited for every element, so you can dive deeper whenever you want.

What really sets this apart is Deep Search, a new capability within AI Mode that shines in complex queries — the kind that would normally take several searches to unravel. Whether you’re comparing laptops with niche features or looking up nuanced health advice, the AI understands context, refines its answers as you interact, and guides you through a much more natural information journey.

Google says it’s gone to great lengths to ensure the quality and reliability of the information served up. A revamped source evaluation system now prioritizes vetted, relevant content. And if you ever want to go back to the classic search layout, that option is always a click away.

Shopping gets a sci-fi upgrade: virtual try-ons and smarter recommendations 🛍️

One of the most futuristic announcements at I/O this year is the AI-powered overhaul of Google Shopping. The goal? To make online shopping feel as tangible, useful, and personalized as browsing in a physical store — maybe even better.

The highlight feature is an impressively advanced virtual try-on system. Using high-resolution 3D modeling, shoppers can now see exactly how clothes would look on their own body type — factoring in your size, shape, and even how different fabrics move. You can mix and match outfits, view them from all angles, and see how they adapt to different poses and movements.

For non-clothing items, Google is doubling down on augmented reality. Want to see how a new couch fits in your living room? Or get a close-up look at the texture of a laptop’s finish? You can now place ultra-realistic 3D models of products in your actual space, scaled and detailed to perfection.

AI is also supercharging recommendations. Instead of just suggesting “similar items,” Google’s system learns your personal style, shopping habits, and even past purchases to offer up products you’re more likely to love — and smart accessory pairings that match your vibe.

And here’s something every bargain hunter will love: intelligent price tracking. Google’s AI now monitors price drops on your wishlisted items and alerts you when it’s the best time to buy, based on price history and seasonal trends. In some cases, it can even trigger automatic partial refunds if prices drop after your purchase, as long as the retailer’s policy allows it.

Between AI Mode and next-gen shopping, Google is reshaping the digital experience around us. Information isn’t just searchable — it’s contextual, conversational, and more intuitive than ever. Shopping online feels more physical, more intelligent, and almost… human. If these innovations live up to the demo, the way we use our screens might be about to change in a very big way.
