To counter the rise of cyber threats, Cameroon is partnering with Interpol and updating its legislation. By multiplying cybersecurity initiatives and adopting an international approach, the country aims to effectively protect its citizens, businesses, and critical infrastructure. During Cybersecurity Month, Cameroon is intensifying its fight against cybercrime by strengthening its National Central Bureau (NCB) in collaboration with Interpol. This strategy combines international cooperation with new regulations, aiming for a proactive response to the growing threats targeting citizens, businesses, and critical infrastructure.

Legislative Modernization: Adopting the Budapest Convention ⚖️

By joining the Budapest Convention in 2022, Cameroon took a significant step in modernizing its cybercrime legislation. Adopted by over 65 countries, this convention promotes increased cooperation and facilitates information sharing to better detect and prosecute cross-border cybercrimes. By aligning its laws with these international standards, Cameroon integrates into a global collaborative network, enabling quicker responses and enhanced effectiveness in legal prosecutions.

Interpol: A Key Player in Joint Operations 🌐

Interpol plays a crucial role in this initiative, providing a secure communication infrastructure that allows Cameroon’s NCB to coordinate targeted international operations. These efforts include tracking cybercriminals involved in financial fraud, identity theft, and cyberattacks against public and private institutions. Cameroon is also investing in law enforcement training and the development of advanced technical tools for quick incident detection and response. Interpol has 186 member countries, and in the event of an attack, the NCB can send messages to all Interpol member states.

Cybersecurity and the Development of the Digital Economy 💻

Beyond securing its digital space, Cameroon aims to encourage innovation and the growth of its tech sector. By strengthening its cybersecurity capabilities, the country seeks to attract investments and support its digital economy. This proactive approach illustrates a vision of controlled digital development, ensuring better protection for citizens while boosting national competitiveness.
