A new feature that will solve a major problem with Meta’s messaging service has arrived: what to do if the phone number is unavailable? It’s finally possible to check your WhatsApp account by e-mail!
Is e-mail verification necessary?
In practice, as detailed by the specialist site WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is now able to send an e-mail containing a profile validation link. So, if you reinstall the app on a mobile that can’t get the mobile network in the area, or want to identify yourself on another device without having your phone to hand, you can bypass the classic message verification (which traditionally contains 6 digits to be entered in the app) and easily go through email verification.
Warning, this doesn’t mean you can create a WhatsApp account simply with your email. No, it doesn’t!
Setting up a WhatsApp account always requires a phone number. It’s simply the identification and verification of the profile that are now accessible by e-mail. A great alternative to the sometimes fickle mobile network, provided you’ve verified your e-mail address first.
How to check by e-mail?
Alors, pour ce faire, rien de bien sorcier.😉
- Vérifiez que vous êtes bien sur la version 23.24.70 de l’app iOS (sinon faites rapidement une mise à jour 😅)
- Ouvrez WhatsApp
- Appuyez sur les trois points verticaux
- Cliquez sur « Réglages »
- Choisissez « Compte »
- Vous devriez voir une option « Adresse email »
- Renseignez votre mail
- Appuyez sur « Suivant »
- Renseignez le code reçu par mail
- Votre mail est vérifié
So there’s nothing tricky about it 😉
- Make sure you’re on iOS app version 23.24.70 (if not, update quickly 😅)
- Open WhatsApp
- Press the three vertical dots
- Click on « Settings
- Choose « Account
- You should see an « Email address » option
- Enter your email address
- Click on « Next
- Enter the code you received by e-mail
- Your email is verified
This will enable you to identify yourself on WhatsApp with your e-mail address. Please note that the latest version of the application is not yet widely deployed by Meta. In this case, if you haven’t yet received the update, please be patient, as it should arrive in the next few days.
Note that Android users don’t yet have access to this new feature, but that should happen in the next few days/weeks/months. Stay tuned!
