Good news for users of Spotify’s free version! The music streaming platform has just restored unlimited access to song lyrics for all its users, including those who don’t pay for a subscription.
Spotify reverses its decision 🥳
Reported by Endadget, this decision comes after a period of restriction that began last May. At the time, Spotify had limited access to lyrics to only three songs per month for free accounts. The measure had sparked numerous criticisms.
The return of this appreciated feature is part of a broader strategy to improve the experience for free users. Daniel Ek, Spotify’s CEO, recently announced his intention to make the free version more attractive, particularly by adding new features.
« We are prioritizing enhancements in our free product pipeline that based on existing performance in certain markets. Further additional improvements will be integrated into our free experience in the coming months. »
A gradual return of the feature 🎙️
This decision is particularly important given the distribution of Spotify users. In the second quarter of 2024, the platform had 626 million active users, including 246 million paid subscribers. This means that more than 60% of active users use the free version of the service. By restoring access to lyrics, Spotify seems to want to enhance the satisfaction of its free users and perhaps mitigate recent criticisms.
The return of unlimited access to lyrics for all users should be gradually rolled out in the coming weeks. But the streaming platform expects all users to have access to this feature without restriction.
