French Prime subscribers just got a major upgrade. In a first-of-its-kind deal, Amazon has partnered with France Télévisions to bring the public broadcaster’s entire streaming service, france.tv, to Prime Video—completely free for users in France. The move adds thousands of on-demand titles, plus live access to France’s major public TV channels, directly within Amazon’s platform.

A strategic partnership to broaden reach 🔗

As of July 3, Prime Video users in France can access a new france.tv hub featuring live streams of France 2, France 3, France 4, France 5, and Franceinfo, along with a massive library of on-demand content—replays, previews, and exclusive shows included.

This “historic” partnership—so described by both companies—comes just two weeks after TF1 announced a similar deal with Netflix, set to go live in 2026. Delphine Ernotte Cunci, president of France Télévisions, called the agreement “a historic milestone” for public broadcasting and a way to boost the visibility of its content on new platforms.

By partnering with Amazon, France Télévisions is positioning itself in front of a much broader audience while also modernizing how its content is distributed.

Expect popular programs like Un si grand soleil, plus upcoming shows like Intervilles and Drag Race France All Stars, all streaming directly via Prime Video.

Prime Video tightens its grip on the French streaming market 📈

This new content bundle adds significant value to Prime Video in France, where Amazon is keen to become a one-stop destination for entertainment. Christophe Deguine, head of Prime Video France, says the platform is “committed to expanding its lineup with more high-quality content.”

Amazon’s video service has been steadily growing since its French launch in 2016. For €6.99 per month, subscribers get access not only to fast shipping, movies, and TV shows—but now to free live and on-demand programming from france.tv as well.

As of 2023, around 1.4 million people in France were using Prime Video every day, compared to 4.6 million for Netflix.

The beginning of a new streaming era? 🔄

This deal reflects a broader shift in the streaming landscape. With viewers increasingly overwhelmed by the sheer number of platforms, major players are looking for hybrid models and bundled access to stay relevant.

Netflix, for example, plans to carry TF1’s channels starting in summer 2026—a global first for the American streaming giant.

Amazon, meanwhile, has been steadily expanding its content partnerships. Beyond france.tv, Prime Video already offers access to services like Max, Paramount+, Universal+, and MGM+, plus 43 other channels via its “Channels” feature.

By bringing public and private broadcasters under one roof, platforms like Prime Video could help reshape how French audiences discover and watch content.
