Since its takeover by Elon Musk, Twitter has begun its metamorphosis. Initially called Twitter 2.0 by the billionaire, the platform will radically change its identity and become « X ».

Tweets and retweets will soon be ancient memory 🚮

As usual, it was via a series of tweets that Elon Musk announced the transformation of Twitter into X, the platform’s new name. And in the process, he asked his followers to suggest a new logo for the micro-blogging platform, and the X in the header image of the article was chosen.

Over the weekend, Twitter’s blue bird logo was changed on the platform to the famous X. And if you go to x.com, you’ll be redirected to Twitter. As the current logo is only temporary, it will evolve over time, as will the platform.

Why is Elon Musk changing Twitter’s identity ? 🤔

The name X is nothing new to Elon Musk. Indeed, one of his first companies, founded in 1999, was called X.com. It was an online bank which, after merging with a competitor called Confinity, became PayPal.

Tweets fromLinda Yaccarino, Twitter’s CEO, reveal a little more about the objective behind this rebranding.

As you can read in the previous tweet, the plan is to include the initial idea behind x.com within Twitter, all sprinkled with artificial intelligence. We imagine a collaboration with xAI (another X), the artificial intelligence company recently founded by Elon Musk.

For the moment, there’s little information on how long the transition will last. We’ll just have to be patient and watch the little bluebird’s hand slowly fade away.
